Experts provide advice during Skin Cancer Awareness Month
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month, and health experts are urging people to take a proactive approach to their skin health.
Doctors say many cases of skin cancer can be missed during routine skin checks, with some specialists identifying hundreds of melanoma cases each year.
Experts say early detection remains one of the most important tools in treating skin cancer. Doctors also encourage people to pay attention to other skin conditions, especially as the seasons change and new irritations or patterns begin to appear.
Michael Christopher, a dermatologist, says, “Every now and again, that yeast will cause our skin to develop a rash. And for some people, it’s actually seasonal. So, for instance, the more the warmer months, the more prevalent. And they’ll get a rash, commonly around like their nose or central face, behind your ear, or sometimes on your chest.”
If you have any questions about what you can do to keep your skin healthy, contact your local dermatologist and remain proactive.
