Eta Delivers Deadly Rains
Tropical Storm Eta made landfall in Florida for the second time in four days overnight before dumping several inches of rain and triggering deadly flash flooding in several southern states. NBC's Wendy Woolfolk reports.
(NBC News) — Tropical Storm Eta made landfall for a second time in Florida overnight, striking this time on the Gulf Coast near Tampa.
Daylight revealed a path of destruction, with boats tossed on beaches and debris littering seaside highways.
Thursday’s landfall was the storm’s fourth overall, first visiting Nicaragua, winding across the Caribbean to Cuba, into the Florida Keys Sunday, then twisting again just north of Tampa.
Remnants of the storm delivered several inches of rain from Georgia to Virginia, triggering flash flooding along the way.
Swiftwater rescue teams had to evacuate 31 people from a campground in North Carolina, where at least one person was killed.
Three adults and one child are still missing.
