Elgedawy’s Career Night Leads Lady Tops Past FAU, 68-59

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Raneem Elgedawy tied a career-high with 28 points and Dee Givens poured in 25 points as the Western Kentucky Lady Hilltoppers improved to 7-0 at Diddle Arena this season with a 68-59 win over Florida Atlantic.
Elgedawy and Givens combined to account for 53 of the team’s 68 points and nearly outscored the visiting Owls by themselves.
The Lady Tops led 19-16 after the first quarter and outscored FAU 14-10 in the second frame to take a 33-26 lead at intermission.
WKU started off the third quarter on an 11-2 run to take a 44-28 lead at the 6:12 mark, but the visitors responded with a 9-2 spurt of their own to trim the deficit to single digits.
The Lady Tops finished strong, though, as senior guard Whitney Creech spearheaded a 13-2 run over the last 4:04 of the quarter to give WKU a commanding 59-39 lead heading into the final frame.
With the win, Western Kentucky improves to 13-6 overall and 5-3 in Conference USA play. After dropping their first two league matchups, the Lady Toppers have won five of their last six and placed themselves right back in the thick of the C-USA standings.
WKU will host Florida International at Diddle Arena this Saturday, February 1st. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
