Edmonson schools get creative to provide more work hours for bus drivers
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bus drivers in a local school district did some side work for the school in order to meet requirements for hours of work.
With school starting later than normal because of the virus, bus drivers in Edmonson County have only been needed twice a week to deliver food to families.
But two days is not enough to keep up with their benefits.
So, as a solution, the school assigned bus drivers painting, power washing and landscaping jobs to get two elementary schools, Kyrock and South Edmonson, ready for students to return.
Some 23 drivers worked for 15 days doing the work.
Before this, the school had not been painted in about 10 years.
Had the bus drivers not been able to do the side jobs, they may have lost their benefits, pay and insurance.
School starts back in Edmonson County Monday.
