Edmonson County Sheriff makes arrest following pursuit
BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – At the start of the work day Wednesday, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a pursuit that almost crossed county lines.
News 40 spoke to chief deputy Clay DeWeese, who detailed a pursuit Wednesday morning in Edmonson County, starting with a call made at 7:55 a.m. of a man holding two victims at gun point in a home.
Deweese said the suspect in question left the residence by the time officers arrived and was then spotted by an Edmonson County jailer at a local dollar store after a description of the vehicle was given to authorities.
Authorities attempted to stop the suspect from leaving the dollar store in his vehicle, who then ultimately sped off after backing into a cruiser.
Authorities say they then began a pursuit on Morgantown Road and made several attempts to remove the suspect from the roadway as he drove recklessly, switching between correct and incorrect lanes. Deweese said he was run off the road during the pursuit, which disabled his vehicle.
Kentucky State Police dispatched a trooper in Grayson County once the chase started nearing Butler County. Deweese said the suspect entered a farm property, running over and damaging a natural gas well, which then caused the suspect to continue fleeing on foot.
Deputies made contact with the farm owner, who then lent his UTV to officers who chased down the suspect, ending the pursuit at gun point.
The suspect was reported to be experiencing a mental health episode. He is charged with wanton endangerment of a police officer.
