Edmonson Co. judge-executive provides food drive update amid government shutdown
EDMONSON COUNTY, Ky. – The Edmonson County community is joining together to answer a call for its neighbors in need.
Edmonson County judge-executive Ronald Scott Lindsey shared a message to social media encouraging food donations amid an ongoing government shutdown, which has lasted nearly a month as of Wednesday.
Recently, the shutdown has brought uncertainty surrounding Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, or SNAP, and how that could impact families’ abilities to put dinner on the table in November.
With next month only days away, multiple communities are having a call to action.
Lindsey stated, “I could never say thank you enough to everyone that has already made donations, whether monetarily or bringing food to one of the drop off locations. It is all important and much appreciated. I’m thankful that we live in a community that cares for our neighbors and comes together when we face challenging times.”
Lindsey is sharing how residents can help. One of those ways includes donating non-perishable food items, such as soups and canned ravioli, to provide assistance until SNAP is restored.
According the judge-executive, this effort is in partnership between the Department of Community Based Services, Edmonson County Schools, local food banks, pantries and local organizations.
To drop off food donations, you can visit the following during normal business hours:
- Youth Service Centers at Edmonson County Middle and High Schools
- Family Resource Centers at Kyrock Elementary, South Edmonson Elementary, and the 5/6 Center
- Edmonson County Department of Community Based Services
- Edmonson County Extension Agency
- LifeSkills
All donated items will be taken to a central storage area and distributed to those who qualify. Lindsey says a separate post will be made when distribution will be available to those who qualify.
Lindsey says this effort will be ongoing until SNAP benefits are restored.
