Duncan Hines Days getting ready for another week of fun
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the Summer months fully arriving, the City of Bowling Green is getting ready to hold a community favorite event yet again this year.
Duncan Hines Days is set to kickoff the first week of June in Bowling Green, offering a chance for families across south-central Kentucky to try some great food, listen to some great music and participate in events that will win some great prizes. But with Bowling Green’s ever growing community, many new faces might be unaware of the Bowling Green legend and what he’s done not just for the community but for the country.
So who is Duncan Hines, and why is he so celebrated?
“Back before the interstate was a thing, before guidelines and standards for food and drink were required, and everywhere that was clean and safe and comfortable, he would make note of, and he turned his 1936 diary into a book, a travel guidebook, the first published “Adventures in Good Eating.” Recommendations for where you and your family could travel. If you’re going on vacation, on the road and where you could stay overnight that was safe and where you could eat that was clean,” said downtown development coordinator Telia Butler.
This year, the Duncan Hines Days is a week packed full of fun for the whole family, from performances by some local bands, to pickleball competitions and even an event right on the square inspired by one of your favorite childhood board games.
“We have what we’re calling the Candyland game, where each business is like a stop on Candyland, and you have to complete a task to do something at the businesses, and you end at Meltdown Ice Cream with a special prize. So trying to create a fun, nostalgic atmosphere for the whole family and all ages 1 to 3 June 2,” Butler said.
Duncan Hines Days will have tons of events this year for the whole family to enjoy. To check out what events you want to take part in, you can click here.
