BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Athletes across the state are gearing up for the Special Olympics in Richmond, Kentucky this weekend. One local competitor and the athlete ambassador for Special Olympics Kentucky, Dillon Meador, will be lighting the torch.
Meador has been competing in many sports since he was 8 years old, including basketball, track and field, softball, flag football and bowling.
Dillon is a leader on and off the court and an athlete who embodies what it means to be a special Olympian.
He tells News40, “When I got into Special Olympics, it showed me that there are other people like me who are also different in many ways, and it showed me that I wasn’t alone, and that has influenced me to be an advocate for special Olympics and try and spread the word about the people in it.”
Meador tells News 40 that he is most excited to reconnect with his friends in different counties across the state that he only gets to see a couple of times a year at state games and tournaments.
