Democrats Push Back on Trump’s Policing Reform Order
(NBC News) — President Donald Trump’s police reform order is getting mixed reviews, as Congress battles it out with dueling plans by Democrats and Republicans.
The order fails to address systemic racism, but it does create a national database of police misconduct and provides help for officers dealing with people who are homeless, addicted to drugs, or who are mentally ill. Democrats are calling for stronger reforms that would end chokeholds, no-knock warrants and qualified immunity for officers.
Republicans insist not all cops are bad apples, saying that they need immunity to keep the public safe.
