Deadly weather strikes

Tornadoes claim at least three lives across Alabama and Louisiana; snow and ice batter the Midwest and Northeast.

(NBC News) At least three people are dead after a series of tornadoes swept across Louisiana and Alabama Monday.

A school in Rapides Parish, Louisiana was destroyed when a twister struck there. Fortunately, all children and staff were sheltered at a local church, and no injuries were reported.

Lawrence County, Alabama was especially hard hit. Two fatalities, a married couple, were reported there, along with several injuries. Authorities said late Monday that debris and downed power lines slowed rescue efforts.
