Curbside Ministries hosts 6th annual soccer tournament

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Curbside Ministries held the 6th annual soccer tournament for kids within the ministry.

While this looks like a few soccer games on the surface, the impact on the Bowling Green communities runs much deeper.

Lesley Duke, the executive director of Curbside Ministries, shares, “The biggest thing is a lot of people, you know, they do go out and, you know, go do the mission trips. But, you know, the biggest mission is here in our community. Specifically for me, being able to be in the community that I grew up in, and give back, is what has been so special.”

Curbside began more than 15 years ago, and the kids who were a part of it back then were inspired to come back and serve now.

Tresor Nishimwe, a former curbside member and coach, says, “At first, it was just kind of a way for me to, you know, get away and just get out of the house. But over time, the kids get a, you know, much closer bond, you know, especially with Miss Talia and Mr. Steven.”

Giving kids a new perspective that they may not see daily can change the trajectory of their lives.

Terri Hill Sheldon, the Curbside founder says, “How powerful it is that these kids that were once seven, eight, nine, 10 are now back giving back to the community in such a powerful way that they’re not going to forget it. These are the moments and the events that are not going to be forgotten by our children.”
