Congressman Guthrie discusses Medicaid’s future
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Potential Medicaid cuts continue to be a point of contention and worry in the United States.
From coverage for those facing disabilities to the impact on those with chronic illnesses, the possible costs could stack up quickly for some families.
Here in Kentucky, Congressman Brett Guthrie shared what he hopes will help bring more control to a program he says is growing out of control.
Guthrie says, “Going to make sure that people work. If they’re eligible to work. The Affordable Care Act opened up. People have the opportunity to get Medicaid and not have work requirements with it, so we’re going to make sure that people work. People are eligible to be on Medicaid, or on Medicaid, and we’re going to get control of the growth and not take anything away but get control on the on the growth, because Medicaid is a program after Affordable Care Act, essentially, the federal government pays for, but the states run it. And so there’s, we want to put incentives for the states to be more efficient with the program.”
Guthrie is the chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, which has jurisdiction of Medicaid.
