Concerned Citizens of Logan County steps up amid government shutdown
RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. — For 34 years, the Concerned Citizens of Logan County has been a steady source of support, providing diapers, cleaning supplies, clothing and more to those in need.
Now, as the federal government shutdown continues, the nonprofit is seeing a surge in families seeking help.
“Oh, definitely. We have seen people come in every day, more and more people that are in need of food,” said Dorris Vick, director of the organization. With uncertainty surrounding programs like SNAP and WIC, many families fear they won’t receive benefits in November.
“Some people are just having a hard time, you know,” Vick said. “And if they could give back to the community, God will bless them. Some people get so much money and some people just don’t have anything.”
Despite the challenges, Vick said faith continues to sustain the organization’s mission.
“Where we can help so many people is like, He’s just pulling the blessings into us. Even though everybody’s going through a lot with the government, God keeps blessing us,” she said.
The Concerned Citizens of Logan County has received support from Feeding America, Feed the Children and many other nonprofits. They also welcome volunteers, monetary donations and nonperishable food items to help meet growing community needs.
