Community Foundation names South Central Kentuckians of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Community Foundation awarded its South Central Kentuckians of the Year on Thursday.

The presentation honors philanthropy in the 10-county area and was given to Jim and Darlene Johnson for their work over the decades with many organizations.

Johnson accepted the honor humbly, saying that there were others more deserving. He credited Bowling Green as his inspiration to serve the community.

He says, “We had maybe more, better opportunities financially moving to a more urban area. But Bowling Green was the perfect place to live. As the saying goes, everything you need; nothing you don’t.”

Jennifer Wethington, executive director of the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky, shared some of Jim Johnson’s background.

Wethington says, “His involvement with the Salvation Army through the years is an excellent example of not only giving back but also contributing to the good of this community.”

The Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky is celebrating its 13th anniversary. The organization promotes philanthropy throughout our area.

This was the 14th South Central Kentuckian of the Year that they have awarded.
