Columbia man arrested on stolen firearm, drug charges

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Columbia man faces stolen firearm and drug possession charges.

A Kentucky State Police trooper says a traffic stop was conducted near the 35 mile-marker of I-65 southbound on Thursday. The license plate of the vehicle was covered by aftermarket trimming.

The trooper identified the driver as Darin Holland, 58 of Columbia.

According to the trooper, a handgun magazine was in the front gear shifter and an odor of marijuana was present. Holland could not provide a driver’s license. The trooper asked Holland where the handgun was located. Holland told the trooper the handgun was at his residence.

Holland has previous felony convictions from Tennessee, including auto theft.

According to a citation, Holland told police the handgun was a street purchase in Nashville and the baggies of marijuana were for distribution of giveaways to friends.

Holland is charged with rim or frame obscuring lettering or decal on the license plate, excessive windshield window tinting, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property (handgun), trafficking in marijuana first offense less than 8 ounces, and drug paraphernalia buy and possess.
