City to vote again on Fairness Ordinance
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Bowling Green’s City Commissioners will have their final vote on the Fairness Ordinance on Tuesday, and it’s still unclear which way things will go.
During the vote that took place last month the Commissioners voted 3-2 in opposition of the ordinance, which would prevent housing and employment discrimination against LGBT+ community members.
Those opposed have said they fear the ordinance could infringe on religious freedom.
Mayor Bruce Wilkerson and Commissioners Joe Denning and Sue Parrigin voted no on the ordinance, while Commissioners Dana Beasley Brown and Slim Nash voted yes.
“I hope that my colleagues on the City Commission will join with me in recognizing that discrimination against individuals who are LGBTQ+ is unacceptable in the city of Bowling Green, and that we’re willing to say it’s so unacceptable that we’ll put some protections in place for that,” said Nash.
State Rep. Patti Minter is calling on supporters of the ordinance to rally outside of City Hall again Tuesday for the second and final reading.
