City of Russellville and Logan County to leave SOKY Drug Task Force

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The City of Russellville and Logan County have announced they are in the beginning stages of withdrawing from the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force.

The force was first established in 2004 between Butler, Logan and Simpson counties as well as the cities of Franklin and Russellville.

However, shortly after the agreement, Butler County removed themselves from the organization. Logan County is now trying to do the same.

A recent funding request from the task force sparked conversation between city and county officials.

On June 3, 2025, Both Logan County Fiscal Court and Russellville City Council voted to send a letter of termination.

Officials say it was not an easy decision. Phil Baker, Logan County judge executive, says the force “is a great organization.” He adds that himself, the Logan County sheriff, the Russellville city mayor and the Russellville city police chief had multiple in-depth discussions about this.

Baker said he wants to use funds from “Logan County and Russellville tax dollars to support the things going on in Logan County.”

News 40 did reach out to the South Central Kentucky Drug Task force and has not received a comment at this time.
