City of Glasgow names new fire chief of Glasgow Fire Department

GLASGOW, Ky. – The City of Glasgow has announced the promotion of Lucas Tinsley to fire chief of the Glasgow Fire Department.

According to a release by the department Tuesday, Tinsley, who has worked with the department for 12 years, previously served as battalion
chief for the past two years. His appointment follows the retirement of former fire chief William Rock.

The Glasgow Fire Department says Tinsley began his career there in August 2012, bringing knowledge and experience to the role.

Before joining the department, fire officials say Tinsley served nearly five years with the Richmond Fire Department and has been involved with several volunteer fire departments. Glasgow fire officials say his diverse background with firefighting has shaped his leadership approach, as well as his vision for the department.

Reflecting on his journey, Tinsley stated, “Growing up in Allen County, KY, and with a family deeply rooted in the fire service, I felt a strong desire to serve my community. My experiences in various roles within the fire department have built a solid foundation for leading GFD. I am excited to continue our progress, ensure exceptional service to our citizens, and build a department the community can be proud of.”

Mayor Henry Royse also expressed his confidence in Tinsley’s leadership, stating, “Chief Tinsley has played a vital role in the growth and advancement of the Glasgow Fire Department. His dedication and vision make him the perfect choice to lead the department
as Fire Chief. We congratulate him on his well-deserved promotion and look forward to his continued leadership.”

As Chief, Tinsley aims to focus on recruitment, retention, and maintaining a high level of community engagement.

“One of the challenges we face is recruiting and retaining qualified individuals in the fire service,” Tinsley said. “We will continue to prioritize
these efforts, ensuring that GFD is equipped with the best team to serve our city.”

Tinsley also spoke on his commitment to strengthening the department’s relationship with the community, stating, “The bond between GFD and the citizens of Glasgow is strong, and we aim to build upon it. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of the people we serve.”

The City of Glasgow extends its heartfelt congratulations to Tinsley and looks forward to his leadership in the years to come.
