Christmas tree shortage to hit local business for the holidays
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Over by Lost River Cave, Morgan’s Fresh Cut Tree Lot is setting up for the season.
Opening on Black Friday, owner Paxx Burk assured us that they are doing their best to keep the holiday cheer affordable, but you might notice a little less inventory this year.
Burk said to News 40, “We’re not going to see a huge difference in the price of the trees on our lot this year over last year. But the shortage is what’s the problem, we’ve got about 40% less trees this year than we had last year.”
Burk said the shortage is largely due to less growing between 2008 and 2012, when tree farmers were having a tough time.
According to Burk, it takes around a decade to grow a 7 to 8 foot tree at the least, so since 2012, the country has more or less been playing catch up.
Burk added that if you want a high end tree, being that they will have less on hand this year, you should show up early in the season. He also said that they’re bringing back their vintage wagon for photo ops and will be offering free hot chocolate throughout the season for those coming out to peruse the small forest.
