Burn bans and restriction updates
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Every year around this time, areas across the Commonwealth are under a burn ban, and some places have requirements and restrictions.
Feb. 15 through April 30 is declared by the state as fire hazard season and requires residents and commercial businesses to not burn at certain hours and to only burn with a permit, depending on which county you’re in.
Michael Alexander, an inspector with the Bowling Green Fire Department, says, “You’re going to burn stuff like that or you need to burn stuff like that, it needs to be done only at night. And the reason why is the wind, it doesn’t have anything to do with the humidity or the moisture or if it even if it rained yesterday and everything’s wet, it’s wind and it just because during this time of the year we have a lot of high winds. And so we’re trying to keep that wind for spreading those embers.”
Alexander also shares that it’s unlawful to set fire to any flammable material located within 150 feet of any woodland or brushland, except between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m.
