Bryant Selebangue undergoes season-ending surgery for torn Achilles

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Tuesday, WKU men’s basketball forward Bryant Selebangue underwent a season-ending surgery after tearing his Achilles in the first half of last week’s game at Marshall.

The McNeese state transfer has been a force at the glass for the team this season, leading all Tops with 6.9 rebounds per game.

This is the first major injury for the sixth-year graduate student and while his presence on the court will be missed, perhaps his attitude and commitment to the game might be missed even more.

“He’s never missed a practice,” head coach Hank Plona said. “He’s never missed a game in his career.”

Selebangue’s absence will now see other forwards on the roster gain a larger role on the court, including players like Noah Boyde who had a breakout game in WKU’s 102-59 win over Campbellsville on Monday.

Boyde logged a career-high 19 minutes against the Tigers, posted a career-high 13 points and tied his career best of seven rebounds.

“ I think we’re probably about ready to go in a bigger role for him (Boyde),” Plona said. “Regardless, Blaise (Keita) and Leeroy (Odiahi) obviously have a lot of experience and will continue to be a very important part of our team…We’ll continue to work through those things, and we’ve got a lot of healthy bodies and a lot of guys are eager and excited to play and we’ll keep figuring that out as we move forward.”
