Brownsville students graduate from D.A.R.E. program
BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – Fifth and sixth grade students in Edmonson County graduated from the D.A.R.E. program Friday.
The D.A.R.E. program stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and is taught in order to help prepare the children with the courage they will need to say no to drugs, alcohol and violence.
Friday morning, students at the Edmonson County 5/6 Center in Brownsville were joined by local law enforcement, teachers and parents as they received their graduation certificates from the Edmonson County K9 Deputy Jordan Jones.
The program consists of 10-weeks of education, after which the students write an essay about what they learned.
The winner of the essay contest, Brooklyn Vincent, won an iPad.
After their graduation, the kids got to see Jones’ K9, Tango, in action.
Tango worked with a bite sleeve, located narcotics, and ran through a tube.
