Briggs Named CSC Academic All-American Second Team; First Time Since 2000
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — For the first time since 2000, WKU Volleyball sees a student-athlete named to the College Sport Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) Academic All-American team list. Fifth-year senior Paige Briggs was tabbed second team the organization announced Tuesday, joining Natalie Furry (third team) as the only two Hilltoppers to ever land on the nationally acclaimed list, as nominated and voted by college sports information directors and members of CSC off of academic and athletic criteria.
The only player in program history with five NCAA Tournament appearances and an undefeated CUSA regular season record under her belt, Briggs led the Tops on the offensive front with 457 kills and a .329 hitting clip — second highest in the nation from any player who took 1000+ swings. A full six-rotation player, she also compiled 275 digs, a 95.9% success rate in serve-receive, and led the Red and White with 58 aces from the service line in 2023. The Ortonville, Michigan native owns two program records: most kills in a single match (35), and most aces in a single match (10). The 5’10” hitter was named CUSA Preseason MVP, two-time CUSA Offensive Player of the Week, CUSA All-Conference, CUSA Alyssa Cavanaugh Player of the Year, CUSA All-Tournament MVP, and was recently named the AVCA South Region Player of the Year.Briggs earned a spot on WKU’s President’s List every semester of her career, along with being tabbed on CUSA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and earning the Academic Medal. She is a three-time member of the CUSA All-Academic Team and two-time member of CSC Academic All-District team. The fifth-year senior graduated from WKU in May 2023 with a degree in visual studies and earned a post-graduate certificate in leadership studies in December.
