Bowling Green’s own Cole Vaughan shines at the Tony Awards

NEW YORK – The 78th Annual Tony Awards, held Sunday evening at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in New York City, celebrated the best of Broadway’s plays and musicals.

Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted a familiar face from Bowling Green among the talented performers. Cole Vaughan, a native of our very own Bowling Green, performed on stage with the cast of the musical “Floyd Collins.”

“Floyd Collins” tells the compelling true story of a small-town farmer and cave explorer, Floyd Collins, who became trapped in a southern Kentucky cave in 1925.

In the musical, Cole Vaughan plays the character of Jewell Estes. Historically, Estes was the first person to make contact with the entrapped Floyd Collins on January 30, 1925. In the musical, Estes is one of the local neighbors who speculates that Collins must have found something significant underground. He is a featured male role in the musical.

News 40 extends a huge congratulations to Vaughan on his Broadway debut and to the entire cast of “Floyd Collins” for their remarkable performance at the Tony Awards!
