Bowling Green’s Duncan Hines Legacy Shines Nationally

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green’s very own Duncan Hines is receiving national recognition, thanks to the remarkable achievements of two local student groups who highlighted his legacy on a national platform.
First, the Western Kentucky University Concrete Canoe team achieved a monumental feat, securing third place in the nation at the recent American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) competition. Their innovative “Sweet Crete” themed canoe was entirely inspired by the man and the mix, demonstrating how these engineering students literally built a concrete canoe that races on water, honoring Hines’ iconic brand.
Additionally, students from Cumberland Trace Elementary showcased their leadership and community spirit at the National Junior Beta Club Competition held last week at Gaylord Palms in Florida. These students, who had previously triumphed at the Kentucky state level, competed in a civic leadership session. Their compelling topic, “Duncan Hines Days” and “Why Duncan?!”, focused on community service and leadership, bringing Bowling Green’s unique story and the impact of Duncan Hines Days to a national audience.
These impressive accomplishments underscore how our local students are not only achieving significant wins but are also proudly sharing Bowling Green’s unique story and positive community initiatives across the country. We are incredibly proud of these kids for their hard work and major accomplishments.
