Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society offers advice on what to do when finding stray animals

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As the weather gets warmer, causing animals to traverse more, the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society recently gave advice on what to do if stray baby animals show up unattended near you.
The Humane Society said that for domesticated animals, such as cats or dogs, the first plan of action should be to contact your neighbors unless the animal is in need of urgent medical care.
If you are familiar with the animal being in the area, it is best to let them be.
If not, the Humane Society says it is best to contact them for further advice.
“If it is simply a stray, you think it needs care, you do think that it’s not home, where it is. Then, go ahead and bring that animal to the Humane Society. Our open hours are available on the website and on Google,” said Community Cat Program Manager, Bowling Green Humane Society Emily Cothran.
“That’s going to be dogs. Cats most likely. Very rarely, there’s a domestic bunny or something like that that’s outside. And so if it is a very urgent situation, then we do have a 24/7 emergency line. We ask for folks to really reserve that for emergencies only,” Cothran added
Cothran also gave advice on what to do if you see wildlife that you think looks abandoned.
“If people find wildlife, it’s important to remember that most of the time, we want to leave wildlife alone. It can be really tempting. It can look like somethings in distress. It can look like to us, the animal isn’t cared for, the baby isn’t cared for, but there are great online resources through the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, and you can see signs when you should actually intervene. Most of the time, that intervention is going to look like making a phone call to a licensed wildlife rehab,” she said.
If you want to contact the Humane Society, you can find contact information on their website or call 270-842-8572.
