Bowling Green Special Olympics holds T-shirt fundraiser

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Special Olympics delegation is holding a T-shirt fundraiser to raise money for gear and travel for all sports they participate in.

The fundraiser will be open until Feb. 18, and members of the community are able to buy the T-shirts through custom ink.

Shirts are available for purchase for $20. Their goal for total shirts sold is 150, and they are currently at 22.

With all proceeds going toward the Special Olympics program, it will help with paying for travel, including the trip to the Basketball State Championship in March.

The programs main goal is to make participation as cost efficient as possible and will do whatever they can to make sure anyone who would like to play is able to.

“We don’t want cost to be a reason that they can’t participate,” said Madison Duncan, adaptive recreation supervisor with Bowling Green Parks and Recreation. ” If they come to us and they say, hey, I really want to play basketball, but I just don’t have the $50 that that it takes. We’re not going to say, oh no, you can’t play. We’re going to say, okay, that’s fine, you come on and play we’ll over your portion of the fee.” Duncan added.

You can also get involved by volunteering for the Special Olympics regional tournament at Kummer Little Recreation Center Feb. 8 and Feb. 9. Bowling Green Parks and Rec are still looking for bookkeepers and scoreboard operators for Sundays games.
