Bowling Green shelter running at capacity

BOWLING GREEN, Ky-October  is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but domestic violence is a year-round problem as one local shelter knows all too well.

The Barren River Area Safe Space (B.R.A.S.S.), a domestic violence shelter in Bowling Green, is running at full capacity right now and has been since summer. The facility recently converted a children’s area into a place where adults can stay.

While this isn’t the peak season for domestic violence, Fontayne Bryant, a child advocate with B.R.A.S.S. said even though domestic violence exists every day of the year, there are certain times of the year when domestic violence is even more common. She said stressful times, such as the holidays, tend to increase the prevalence of domestic violence.
