Bowling Green Purples end 2024-2025 campaign as the state runner-up
LEXINGTON, Ky. – After claiming the 4th region title for the first time in three years earlier this month, the Bowling Green Purples began on their road in the KHSAA Sweet 16 Tournament.
With one win after a another, this senior-led squad refused to fold under pressure, grabbing two overtime wins and having one of their best three-point shooting outings of the postseason in the semifinals against South Oldham.
On Saturday evening, Bowling Green had battled its way to meet Great Crossing in the 2025 state championship.
It marked just the third state title game appearance in program history for the Purples.
The Warhawks had a dominant journey of their own to the title game, led by Kentucky men’s basketball commit and this year’s Mr. Kentucky Basketball Malachi Moreno.
After tipoff, Great Crossing got out to an early lead and held a score of 32-17 at the half.
The Warhawks saw their largest lead of the game halfway through the 3rd quarter at 24 points, but the Purples refused to back down.
Kadyn Carpenter and Jace Wardlow began knocking down some three-point baskets late in the game to cut the point deficit to just six points, but that would be the closest Bowling Green’s comeback effort would get.
Great Crossing took the 71-61 victory to be crowned this year’s state champions.
The Purples end the year with a 31-7 record, a 4th region title and a state runner-up title.
