Bowling Green Parks and Rec events to benefit Bowling Green Special Olympics Program

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With Halloween right around the corner, several seasonal events are planned to keep the community busy.

The Bowling Green Parks and Recreation department will host a trunk-or-treat at Preston Miller Park, and they’re looking for participants to decorate their trucks. It costs $30 to reserve a spot, with all proceeds benefiting the Bowling Green Special Olympics Program.

The trunk-or-treat will take place on Oct. 23.

The funds will help provide new uniforms, cover travel expenses and support other needs to make sure our special athletes have what they need to succeed.

“When you come out, you’re just happy to be around them. They’re happy to be there, happy to be with you. And they just love doing sports and they love being able to to have their friends and family come out to do sports or even community members that maybe don’t know, they, you know, they’ll run down the court, give you a high-five as they go. And it’s just a very special thing to be able to, to provide these opportunities for our athletes,” said Madison Duncan, the adaptive recreation supervisor for Bowling Green Parks and Rec.

They are also looking for donors and participants for the 5th Unified Swing Golf Scramble, and are also looking for volunteers for the Bowling Green regional Special Olympics bowling tournament.
