Bowling Green man sentenced on drug and firearm possession charges

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man has been sentenced in relation to drug and firearm possession charges.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office, Western District of Kentucky, Steven Phelps, 41, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for possession with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and illegal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Officials say Phelps possessed and intended to distribute about 2,400 grams of methamphetamine in August 2022 while providing 8.734 grams of methamphetamine to another person for resale. That same day, Phelps also had a handgun, which he is prohibited from possessing due to previously being convicted of multiple felonies, according to officials.
These include convictions for drug offenses in April 2015, August 2011 and November 2004.
The case was investigated by the ATF Bowling Green Field Office and the Bowling Green/Warren County Appalachia High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Drug Task Force.
