Bowling Green man charged with assault in Edmonson County

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is behind bars after allegedly running into another man with his vehicle in Edmonson County.

According to a uniform citation, the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Department was dispatched to Green River Apartments at 1008 S. Main St. on Thursday afternoon regarding a physical altercation between two male subjects.

Authorities say a caller stated a physical fight had taken place in the parking lot, with one male having already left the scene.

Deputies say they located the described vehicle on Kentucky Highway 101 and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver was identified as 44-year-old Johnathon Shelton of Bowling Green.

Authorities say Shelton stated he had returned to the scene earlier and that the other male was “standing in front of his vehicle with a chain over his shoulder.”

Shelton stated he accelerated forward, hitting the other male and causing him to land on the hood.

Shelton further stated he got out of the vehicle, and a physical fight took place until Shelton left, authorities say.

The other male involved was transported by Edmonson County EMS to The Medical Center at Bowling Green. Shelton was transported to the Hart County Jail.

He faces a charge of first-degree assault.
