Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy approved to open this year
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green Police Department has received official approval to establish the “Bowling Green Law Enforcement Academy.”
Thursday, the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council voted to approve the request for BGPD to develop the department’s own police training academy.
Until now, recruits had to attend the Department of Criminal Justice Training Academy in Richmond, Ky.
The establishment of a Bowling Green basic academy will enhance the preparation of new officers through a Bowling Green city and BGPD-centric curriculum, according to a release from the department.
This academy will allow new officers to enter into field training with a more comprehensive understanding of the agency, the community and the department’s expectations.
The academy will open in June.
