Bowling Green City Commissioner dunked in water tank to increase Instagram followers

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the past several weeks, the City of Bowling Green has been attempting to reach 1,798 followers on their Instagram account, with 1798 being the year that Bowling Green was founded.

If they reached that number, Commissioner Brian “Slim” Nash would be dunked in a water tank.

Unfortunately, the city was unable to reach their goal, but they still decided to dunk Nash anyway.

On Tuesday morning at Bowling Green Ballpark, several Hot Rods players had the opportunity to send Nash splashing into a blue tank of frigid water.

“It was cold,” Nash said, still drying off after being dunked multiple times. “The water came right out of the fire hydrant. I went down about six to eight times, and each time was just as cold as the first, but it was fun.”

Nash acknowledged that some people might be confused as to why the city was so set on reaching 1,798 followers on Instagram, but added that this campaign was about much more than a social media account and dunking a local city official in a tank of water.

“It’s about so the city can better communicate with the citizens of Bowling Green,” he said. “It’s a way to be more transparent. It’s a way to ensure that citizens know the good things that are going on in Bowling Green, what to avoid in Bowling Green if we have road closures or sidewalks that are under construction.”

This is the first time the city as done something like this, but Nash would like to make it an annual event.

“I think that next year we should start with [Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson], and then move on to [City Commissioner Joe Denning], and then [City Commissioner Sue Parrigin], and then [City Commissioner Dana Beasley-Brown],” said Nash. “I will be the first one to throw the pitch at all four of them.”
