Bowling Beyond Limits: Dillon Meador representing Kentucky in 2026 Special Olympics USA Games

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – 18-year-old Dillon Meador is gearing up to take the bowling out of Bowling Green, showcasing his talents at the 2026 Special Olympics USA Games this summer.
“ When I found out, Mama sent me a text and was like ‘I got this letter from Specialist Kentucky…. you’re going to Nationals.’ I’m like, ‘oh sweet. That’s amazing,'” Meador said.
Meador has been a Special Olympics Kentucky competitor for 10 years with experience in a variety of sports, but recently he wanted to change it up a little bit.
After picking up a bowling ball, he has since knocked down many pins and grown his game to an elite level.
Not only is Meador excited to compete at the 2026 Special Olympics USA games, but the idea of putting a spotlight on his hometown will be even more of an honor.
“I’m excited to put Bowling Green on the map even more than it already is,” Meador said. “We already have Corvettes and a bunch of other stuff that we’re known for, but I want to put us more on the map for Special Olympics.”
Being a teenager with autism hasn’t presented an easy path, but through the strikes and spares, SOKY has given Meador the perfect space to thrive in an environment that’s right up his alley.
“When I got involved with Special Olympics, I was in a point of my life where I didn’t really have any friends,” Meador said. “I was made fun of and bullied a lot, but Special Olympics helped to show me that there are other people like me. There are others that thought that they didn’t fit in, and Special Olympics is a place where they can fit in.”
“I want to try and help continue that,” Meador said. “I want to get Special Olympics more out there where people know about it.”
The 2026 Special Olympics USA Games will take place in Minnesota from June 20-26.
