Birdwell named new Metcalfe County volleyball coach
EDMONTON, Ky. – Metcalfe County High School introduced its new head volleyball coach Ethan Birdwell on Wednesday afternoon.
Birdwell brings 16 years of competitive volleyball experience to Metcalfe County as a former college club coach at WKU and a local youth club coach.
“I grew up around the sport, but I fell in love with it while I was at college at Tennessee Tech,” Birdwell said. “I want this community to fall in love with volleyball, too. These girls work just as hard at their sport as any other student-athlete. We want to draw bigger crowds and fan engagement to fuel player energy on the court, which will ultimately help our team succeed.”
MCHS Principal Joseph Eaton said, “We are excited to have Coach Birdwell join Metcalfe County High School as our new volleyball coach. His expertise will make a positive impact on our volleyball program. I look forward to seeing the great things that our Lady Hornets will
achieve next season.”
Birdwell said he’s eager to talk to his team and learn more about the players before setting team goals.
“We definitely want to improve, finish the season with a winning record, and compete for a top spot in the district.”
Birdwell is a native of Clay County, Tennessee. He and his wife, Taylor, moved to Edmonton from Glasgow in 2021. They have two sons, Peter, 2, and Linus, 1.
