Bill passed by Kentucky House would make multiple DUI offenses a felony
Kentucky lawmakers are moving to strengthen penalties for repeated DUI offenses.
The House unanimously passed House Bill 220, which would make a third DUI offense within 10 years a class D felony.
That’s the lowest felony in Kentucky and carries a prison sentence of one to five years.
Right now, the law mandates 30 days to a year in jail for the third offense.
Lawmakers emphasized the importance of making roads safer and highlighted this bill as a critical step.
The bill now heads to the Senate.
