President-elect Joe Biden says getting the coronavirus pandemic under control will be key to reviving the economy...but distribution of promising vaccines could be stalled by the Trump administration's transition roadblocks. NBC's Alice Barr reports.
(NBC News) — President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris met Monday with labor leaders and the CEOs of top companies from General Motors to Microsoft to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the economy.
“We all agree we have to get the virus under control to get the economy back,” Mr. Biden said.
In a critical step toward getting back to normal, drug maker Moderna has announced early data shows its vaccine is more than 94 percent effective. It’s now the second company to show such promising results.
Vaccine distribution will be a monumental task, and with President Trump still refusing to concede the election and offer help to the incoming administration, medical experts are raising the alarm about potentially damaging gaps in the handoff.
It’s expected that about 20 million high-risk people may be able to get a vaccine by the end of the year, but it will likely be late spring or summer before doses are widely available to the general public.
