BG’s Out of the Darkness Walk raises funds for suicide prevention

Help Donate Online Through December 31st

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Sunday, Bowling Green’s 10th annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk saw so many of you out there walking to stand up to suicide.

The walk at Ephram White Park has already raised close to $13,000 to assist in suicide prevention.

You can help donate to Bowling Green’s American Foundation for Suicide Prevention through the end of December if you wish to contribute.

Before the walk, people grabbed their beads – each a different color representing different ways suicide has impacted people’s lives.

Bowling Green AFSP walk organizer Katelyn Simpson said, “One way we try to bring people together is beads, and so they represent different things. Where I lost my brother 17 years ago by suicide, I have on an orange bead necklace. Then, I lost a friend, so I’m wearing purple, and then blue, to support the cause. And I think it’s just a way where you don’t really have to tell your story, but you can also know why you’re here.”

AFSP encourages you to call the suicide hotline 9-8-8 if you’re ever struggling with thoughts of suicide.
