BGMU to have crews ready for possible power outages

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Something to keep in mind during the dangerously cold temperatures – there could be some power outages.

We spoke with BGMU representatives, who told us even though it’s a holiday weekend, crews will be out to fix any power outages that may occur.

“You know, it doesn’t matter if it’s a holiday or a weekend. We always have employees ready to go and ready to get everyone powered back up if that does happen,” said Shelley Lowe, marketing  coordinator of BGMU.

Be sure to have a secondary source of heat prepared in case of an outage. Ensure phones are charged and flashlights and warm blankets are nearby. Bowling Green-Warren County Emergency Management also says if you are using a generator, be sure to only use it outdoors and use appropriately rated cords.

The CDC also advises against using a gas stove or oven to heat your home in an emergency, as this can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

One tip to keep your pipes from freezing over…be sure to open up those cabinet doors underneath the sink to allow warm air to get in. And set your faucets to trickle, not drip, over night and into the morning.
