BGMU replacing water pipes, how to prepare for cold temps
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-WNKY 40 News has an update to bring you on the water main break.
The water main break was on an 83 year old pipe. It was due to the age of the pipe, not the weather. The pipe has been repaired, and they are in the process of fixing the surrounding asphalt.
BGMU is actually in the process of replacing pipes over 100 years old on the Bypass to prevent other water main breaks from happening.
And as the weather gets colder, BGMU wants to remind you to take action to prevent water main breaks in your own homes.
“If people don’t have the lid on their water meter pit it will freeze up there so we will encourage people to know where their water meter is, make sure the lid is on there tight. We also encourage them to know how to turn it off,” said BGMU Water/Wastewater Systems Manager Mike Gardner.
BGMU says that these are more likely to happen when we have an extended period of below freezing temperatures.
