BGMU earns Tree Line USA recognition from Arbor Day Foundation

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green Municipal Utilities is being recognized for a balance between providing reliable power while preserving urban forests.
According to a release Wednesday, the Arbor Day Foundation honored BGMU as a 2025 Tree Line USA utility, an honor the provider has received for 18 consecutive years.
The Arbor Day Foundation serves as a global nonprofit, with a mission to inspire those who plant, care for and celebrate trees.
The Tree Line USA program offers a way to recognize service providers that maintain a high standard of care when planting or maintaining trees on the job, BGMU says.
“BGMU recognizes that a healthy, vibrant urban forest enhances the quality of life in our community,” said Mark Iverson, general manager of BGMU. “At the same time, we understand that trees can sometimes conflict with the need for reliable electric power. We appreciate the opportunity to work with the Arbor Day Foundation to develop and follow best practices in quality tree care.”
To qualify for Tree Line USA, the release states utilities must “uphold five core principles, including following industry standards for quality tree care, providing annual worker training in best tree care practices, sponsoring a tree planting and public education program, maintaining a tree-based energy conservation program and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.”
