BGFD gives out fire safety tips
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Following the house fire this week in Russellville, News 40 swung by the Bowling Green Fire Department for some needed advice in consideration of the weather.
Public Information Officer Katie McKee told us in her interview that during the cooler months, important things to remember are to not leave lit candles unattended, if you’re using a space heater, make sure it’s plugged directly into an outlet rather than an extension cord and make sure flammable objects are at least 3 feet away from heat sources.
“We want everyone in the house to know at least 2 ways out of each room in the house…” McKee said.
The fire department encourages the use of small fire extinguishers out there for the home that you could keep in the kitchen; just make sure it’s not a water based extinguisher as most fires in the kitchen are grease fires. But still, McKee also urged people to call the fire department even if an incident occurs that you feel you have under control.
