BG Special Olympics plays basketball at Diddle Arena

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- On Sunday, a few organizations teamed up to put on the first ever Special Olympics basketball game at E.A. Diddle Arena.

To celebrate the basketball season, Bowling Green Special Olympics rented out the space for the entire afternoon. Participants were split up into five teams for the exhibition game- the Raiders, the Generals, the Deputies, the Express, and the Force.

They also unveiled their new uniforms to their friends and families.

“They’re full of joy, they’re full of excitement to be able to come out to Diddle. For the parents I think it’s a truly special thing to see their family members get to play in a place like this and be cherished and valued and accepted for their basketball skills. And to play in a place like Diddle it means they’re just as good as other athletes in our community,” said Cameron Levis from Bowling Green Parks and Recreation.

The Bowling Green Special Olympics has been providing sports opportunities for those with intellectual disabilities for almost 40 years now.
