Beshear orders flags to half-staff in honor of State Sen. Johnnie Turner
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Saturday, Nov. 2 in honor of State Senator Johnnie Turner, who died Oct. 22 .
According to a release by the governor’s office, Turner died at the age of 76.
“Britainy and I are saddened by the news of Sen. Johnnie Turner’s passing,” said Beshear on his social media accounts upon learning of Turner’s death. “We send our condolences and prayers to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Turner served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1999 to 2002 and had represented Bell, Floyd, Harlan, Knott and Letcher counties in the 29th District of the Kentucky Senate since 2021, the release says.
Turner’s funeral will be held at Holy Trinity Church in Harlan Saturday morning with burial to follow at Resthaven Cemetery in Keith.
Beshear encourages all individuals to take part in the tribute.
