Beshear orders flags to half-staff in honor of former Kentucky governor Julian Carroll

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has ordered for flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff in honor of former Kentucky Gov. Julian Carroll, who died at age 92.
According to a release by Beshear’s office, Carroll was the 54th governor of the commonwealth, serving from 1974 to 1979. Before Carroll was governor, the release states he worked as lieutenant governor from 1971 to 1974. Later, Carroll served in the Kentucky State Senate from 2005 until 2020.
“Former Gov. Julian Carroll dedicated his career to public service. For decades he worked to support public education and those he represented in Frankfort,” Beshear said. “Please join Britainy and me in praying for his family during this difficult time.”
Beshear is ordering that flags be lowered until sunset on Saturday, Dec. 16.
Carroll will lie in state in the rotunda of the Kentucky State Capitol on Friday, Dec. 15 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with a memorial service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, at Elevate Church in Frankfort, with burial to follow at Frankfort Cemetery.
