Beshear confirms he will not seek to replace McConnell

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear confirmed Thursday during a Team Kentucky update that he does not intend to seek a bid for a seat with the U.S. Senate.
This follows Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell announcing last week that he won’t seek reelection next year.
When asked about the seat, Beshear stated, “Where I am is loving my job. Even in the toughest times, even going to communities that have been hit hard, I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be.”
The governor also confirmed he does not plan to seek any other position in Washington in 2028.
Recently, Beshear has provided updates following historic flooding that damaged multiple counties in Kentucky, including updates shared on Thursday.
“To everybody that is going to be digging out and rebuilding, I can tell you, at least for the next two years 7 months, I’m serving out this full term. Uh, will not run for that Senate seat because I made my promise to be the best governor I can be, and I can’t imagine a better job out there.”
Beshear stated he is proud to be Kentucky’s governor and everything they’re doing for Kentucky.
Since McConnell’s announcement, former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron has announced his bid for Senate. Cameron previously ran for Kentucky governor against Beshear.
News 40 will continue to provide updates as they develop.
