FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear has announced the preliminary numbers of sports betting since its opening day in Kentucky.

The governor said Monday that numbers show nearly $250 million has been gambled in Kentucky and nearly 500,000 wagering accounts have been created with mobile applications.

The opening days began with in-person retail sportsbooks on Sept. 7, which Beshear’s office says brought more than $15.7 million in wagers. Following this, mobile devices launched their own source of wagering on Sept. 28, bringing more than $232.3 million in wagers.

“Kentucky is approaching $250 million wagered. That is a strong number that certainly reflects excitement for the opening of sports wagering,” Beshear says. “It has taken many years to get here, but sports wagering is finally a reality in Kentucky. This is a win-win for Kentuckians, who can enjoy a quality entertainment experience and benefit from funds staying right here in our state to help us build a better Kentucky.”

Beshear will witness additional growth in the industry on Thursday with the grand opening of Sandy’s Gaming and Racing retail sportsbook in Ashland, Kentucky.
