FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear announced Thursday his administration is providing $41.5 million for Kentucky’s foster children and those who provide them care.

Funding distribution will start this month to benefit 45 providers, including SAFY, which has a location in Bowling Green.

Beshear’s office says the funds are possible due to a reduction in the number of children in foster care, as well as through funding from the state budget.

Beshear says this includes a one-time allocation of $21.5 million due to cost savings. An additional $20 million is from the state budget, the governor’s office says.

“Every child is a child of God and deserves the best,” Beshear said. “Due to concerted efforts by our administration, Kentucky is experiencing a significant drop in children in foster care, and I am proud that we can provide additional funds to help support the children who remain in our care.”
