Below BG, Part Three: “The Resolution”, city moves forward
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The city of Bowling Green has had a long-time maintenance problem that is now starting to be rectified after the prolonged rain in early April brought to light the terrible problems underfoot.
The city commission has heeded warning by the Public Works Department and even gone underground with some of the workers to check out the crumbling infrastructure which is way past its expiration date. While the storm sewer system is working, it’s in the need of many touch-ups and reworking to sustain the growth of the city.
The stormwater utility ordinance is underway and should wrap up by August, which will increase monthly water bills by a nominal amount to get a stream of revenue flowing that will fund needed infrastructure.
The Board of Commissioners find this to be a huge safety issue for the city as well as a money pit that they need to address if they want to stay true to their individual ideals of doing what’s best for the city.
The thought process so far is to charge rental properties, mobile homes and such just $2 dollars while more palatial property like homes will have a $4 dollar fee.
